[경제] Can Information About Trade-Specific Earnings Encourage Young Women to Cross Over to Male-Dominated Sectors? Evidence From a Pilot in the Republic of Congo

Globally, women working in male-dominated sectors earn an average of 67 percent more than those in traditionally female sectors. Yet female entrepreneurs tend to concentrate in lower-profit sectors. One of the reasons for this sectoral segregation is the lack of information available to women, and related misconceptions, about earnings in male- versus female-dominated sectors. In this context, a pilot intervention supported by the Umbrella Facility for Gender Equality (UFGE) and the Africa Gender Innovation Lab in the Republic of Congo showed that providing young women with information about trade-specific earnings can encourage them to cross-over to more lucrative, traditionally male-dominated trades, and thereby contribute to reducing gaps in earnings between female and male run business.
